Jennifer has 22 years of experience in business, food systems, government administration and grants, as well as extensive project management expertise. She most recently served on Governor Sisolak’s cabinet as the Director of Agriculture charged with regulating and navigating agriculture, natural resources, climate, and food systems providing the state of Nevada high level leadership during her tenure. She initiated a sustainable farming and outreach program at the University of Nevada, Reno and pulled from her business expertise to consult as a business advisor with the Small Business Development Center. There she assisted businesses with marketing campaigns, operations, and government compliance.
Jennifer earned a Master’s in Business degree from the University of Nevada, Reno with a marketing and operations focus to augment her earlier education and experience in the science fields. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and a minor in Mathematics from the University of Texas at Austin.
Her extensive board experience includes past appointments as the Chairwoman of the Governor’s Council on Food Security, Board President of Western United States Agriculture Trade Association, and Secretary of the Western Association of the State Departments of Agriculture. She has also served as a board member on the State Environmental Commission, Sagebrush Ecosystem Council, and NevadaGrown.
She has spent years navigating the path between science-based businesses, governments and communities to great success.
About Us
Ashley has extensive experience in public administration and project management, covering diverse industries including natural resource and climate, pest management, food safety, and cannabis among several other industries. Her most recent experience as a Division Administrator at the Department of Agriculture includes various leadership roles in administering compliance inspections, funding, management and education services as well as engaging with various stakeholders in public and private industries. She has built, managed, and expanded diverse regulatory programs including USDA export services, Good Agriculture/Handling Practices, Hemp Production and Licensing, Pesticide Compliance and Applicator Testing, Chemistry Lab Services and Proficiency, FDA’s Produce Safety Rule, Organic Certification, Noxious Weeds Compliance, Drought Relief Program, Farm to School, and Worker Protection Standards.
Ashley Jeppson received a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science and Rangeland Management from the University of Nevada, Reno, laying a foundation in understanding the complexity of natural resources, food production, distribution and management issues in the west, which was further built upon through her fourteen years in public service.
She has also served nationally on boards including as president on the Nevada Farms Conference Board and the Western Plant Board as well as an officer on the National Plant Board. This experience included engagement with diverse industries and stakeholders and immersion in various businesses and enforcement practices. It also provided exposure to new laws, resources, and technology used for business and compliance efficiencies.
She has committed much of her career to bridging the gaps between government and those they regulate as well as facilitating improved collaborations, procedures and policies that support businesses, protect land and people as well as advance opportunities for new and emerging industries.
